Egypt to receive 1300 train cars from Hungarian-Russian agreement

Egypt will receive its first batch of 1300 train coaches next month, Head of Egypt’s Railway Authority Ashraf Raslan announced, as per a Hungarian-Russian agreement to modernize the authority’s train fleet.

According to Raslan, this would be the largest deal made by the Railway Authority since its establishment, marking a “leap in the civilization of the Egyptian citizen”.

Raslan specified that 500 train coaches will be allocated to the Upper Egypt line due to the region’s high temperatures, and the long distances traveled by its passengers.

The official pointed to the success of the partial development of 133 stations in Egypt’s governorates, coinciding with the arrival of 200 new locomotives from General Electric.

On Monday, the Egyptian Railways Authority reported signing an agreement with Progress Rail Locomotives (PRL), for the maintenance and upgrading of 91 locomotives, and the purchase of 50 new Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) locomotives.
