Deposed Sudanese president Bashir sentenced to 10 yrs over illicit richness

Sudanese court ruled Saturday to sentence ousted Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir over financial corruption and illicit richness cases filed against him.

The court seen Bashir as convicted in the accusations drawn against him, and accordingly, he will enter a two-year correctional institution while his money will be confiscated.

The final court session was heard in Khartoum on November 16, including testimonies by the government’s auditor general.

Al-Bashir’s trial began on August 19, two days after the signing of a historic agreement between the military council and the opposition leaders to share power during a transitional period.

Bashir was overthrown following nation-wide protests that extended for months, and resulted in several deaths. Governed Sudan since 1989, Bashir was transferred to the highly-guarded Kober prison in Khartoum after he was ousted of presidency.
