Sisi, British PM welcome resumption of British flights to Sharm El Sheikh

President Abdel Fatah al Sisi and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson welcomed, Tuesday the resumption of British flights to Sharm El Sheikh.

During meeting in London, the two leaders agreed on the need to increase trade between the UK and Egypt according to Downing Street spokesperson statement.

“President Sisi was in London to attend yesterday’s UK-Africa Investment Summit and the two leaders agreed on the need to increase trade between the UK and Egypt. They welcomed the resumption of flights to Sharm El Sheikh.” the statement stated.

Johnson and Sisi spoke about UK and Egyptian collaboration in the field of education and undertook to build on this in the coming years.

The spokesperson added that, “The two leaders also discussed the situation in Libya, following their attendance at the Berlin Conference on Libya on Sunday.”

Johnson also stressed the need for a ceasefire and for UN-led talks to find a political solution to the conflict, the statement added.

Egyptian presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady, said in a statement earlier on Tuesday that the meeting discussed means to coordinate efforts in the field of combating terrorism and illegal immigration.

The meeting also tackled the latest developments in a number of regional and international issues of common concern, most importantly the Libyan crisis.

Sisi also met with Prince William, duke of Cambridge and the son of the crown prince, at the Royal Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, according to Rady.

President Sisi expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome, praising the extended Egyptian-British cooperation.

President Sisi stressed Egypt’s aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations with UK, particularly in the fields of tourism and education, as well as on the economic and commercial levels, by maximizing the volume of British investments in Egypt.
