The Egyptian Ministry of Health on Friday said it would dispatch a medical convoy including 24 doctors, as well 40 tons of drugs and medical supplies to Sudan within days, to back the country’s health system after devastating floods.
The ministry also announced the resumption of an air bridge between the two countries to transfer medical aid from Egypt to Sudan, to support the Sudanese people.
Egypt has sent medical assistance to Sudan since it has been hit by deadly floods causing many people to die and many houses to be damaged and leaving the country prone to epidemics.
Doctors from different specialties will be sent to Sudan, as well as paramedics, nurses and agricultural engineers, the ministry said.
The ministry sent 34 tons of pesticides and related equipment, along with a specialized team, to support Sudan’s health system, in light of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives, the ministry added.
The team already started its work on Friday in the areas affected by floods and rains, in order to combat rodents, mosquitoes and harmful insects and to prevent the spread of diseases as a result of stagnant water in these areas.
The team members will continue spraying pesticides in seven Sudanese cities for 15 days, the ministry said, adding that they will also train Sudanese cadres on how to use pesticides in combating harmful insects.
