NCW congratulates Dr. Hoda el-Maraghy for receiving Order of Canada medal

The National Council for Women (NCW) congratulated Egyptian-Canadian Professor Dr. Hoda el-Maraghy for obtaining the Order of Canada Medal, the highest civil award in Canada.

“Dr. Hoda el-Maraghy is an honorable Egyptian that were are proud of,” said NCW head Maya Morsi, as she praised her excellence, success and efficiency in the field of mechanical engineering.

Morsi added that distinguished professor El-Maraghy was able to enrich the global industrialization field with many contributions that made her atop the best scholars in her field, which qualified her to obtain this high medal.

Hoda Abdel Kader Gamal also uses the name Hoda El-Maraghy after her husband’s name, who himself is a renowned Egyptian scientist, Dr. Wagih El Maraghy.

El-Maraghy received a bachelor’s degree with honors in mechanical engineering from Cairo University in Egypt, and then she received Master’s and PhD degrees in the same field from McMaster University, Canada in 1972 and 1976 respectively. She joined the University of Windsor as the first woman dean of Engineering in Canada in 1994.

El-Maraghy is the director of the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) Center at the University of Windsor, Canada.
