1st batch of Covid19-oral-drug expected to arrive in Egypt this month: Health ministry

CAIRO- 3 January 2022: Egypt’s Ministry of Health announced, Monday that the government managed to sign a contract for importing new Coronavirus oral medicine, expected to arrive in Egypt this month.

Spokesman for the and Population Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said that the international health organizations such as the US Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicine Agency approved new kinds of COVID-19 medicine including an oral administration drug where the substance is taken by mouth.

In televised statements, Abdel Ghaffar noted that the first batch expected to arrive Egypt this month.

A total of 801 new coronavirus cases were detected on Sunday, upping the total number of confirmed cases reported in Egypt since the beginning of the outbreak to 387,159, according to the Ministry of Health.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said 29 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 21,797.

As many as 436 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 321,568 so far, the spokesman said.

In a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said a total of 55.6 million coronavirus vaccine doses have been administered so far.

He added that Egypt has been supplied with more than 119 million coronavirus vaccine doses, with about 64.3 million doses still available for use.
