Egypt reports 1,113 new coronavirus cases, 10 fatalities

CAIRO – 6 March 2022: The Health Ministry said Saturday night that 1,113 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed infections since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country began to 489,876.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said 10 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 24,172.

As many as 1,432 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 419,894 so far, the spokesman said.

On Tuesday, Egypt’s Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar held a press conference to announce the start of clinical trials for the Egyptian vaccine EgyVacc.

This is the second locally-made vaccine after CoviVacc, whose clinical trials started in November.
