Egypt is keen on supportng the elimination of Hepatitis C in South Sudan: Minister

CAIRO – 6 June 2022: Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Acting Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, received Sunday, Yolanda Oil, Minister of Health of the State of South Sudan, at the General Office of the Ministry of Health and Population.

This comes on the sidelines of the activities of the first African Medical Conference “Africa Health ExCon”, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which is set to be held from June 5-7, 2022, at the Egypt International Exhibition Center, under the slogan “Your Gateway to Innovation and Trade”.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the two ministers discussed continuing cooperation to eradicate Hepatitis C in South Sudan, similar to Egypt’s pioneering experience in this field.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the meeting included discussions of ways to provide the needs of the health system in the sisterly country to discover and treat patients with hepatitis C, whether through test reagents, medicines, or medical devices.

Abdel Ghaffar referred to the discussion of expanding cooperation in the areas of exchanging experiences and training human cadres from the Egyptian health system in the State of South Sudan, by providing short training programs in various medical specialties according to the needs of the sister country.

He pointed out the Minister’s affirmation that the first African Medical Conference “Africa Health ExCon”, contributed to creating great opportunities for dialogue and discussions between health officials in the African continent, highlighting the available capabilities and the different needs of countries, to achieve the maximum benefit for the benefit of the peoples of the continent.

Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar also stated that Egypt submitted a request to WHO to be declared as a state free of hepatitis C.
