Al-Azima Center: Egypt’s first center established by drug addiction recoverers

CAIRO – 31 June 2022: Dr. Ahmed Al-Katami, Director General of Treatment Programs at the Addiction and Substance Abuse Control and Treatment Fund, said that “Al-Azima Center”, which translates to [Determination Center] is the first center to be established by drug addiction recoverers.

Over the past years, an integrated plan was developed to combat addiction and drug abuse to prevent its danger to society in Egypt, Al-Katami added.

He further said, during his tour of the Manchet program inside the Al-Azima Center in Minya, that the Al-Azima Center is the first place for work therapy. It hosts workshops, where each workshop has a trainer to train the recovering on work, manufacturing and production.

While Nevin Fikry, the therapeutic director of Al-Azima Center in Minya, affiliated with the Addiction Fund, confirmed that the training begins with some trainees according to their specializations abroad.

She added that the center is one of the largest centers that implements the policies of the work treatment program, and the workshops professionally qualifies those recovering from addiction during within 90 days.

Nevin Fekry confirmed, the center includes a blacksmith, carpentry, electrician and sewing.
