Embassy of Saudi Arabia denies sending warning message on WhatsApp

The Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Egypt on Friday denied that the embassy sent out message over WhatsApp stating that Egyptian gangs are blackmailing Saudi women.

The embassy clarified that the message that was sent by an employee in the Saudi Embassy was unofficial.

“The Embassy received several inquiries concerning a voice message from an employee in the embassy on the WhatsApp application. The alleged message warns that gangs blackmail Saudi women on social media,” the embassy clarified on Twitter.

The Embassy added, “As the Embassy is not sure of authenticity of the message’s information, the embassy would like to make clear that it will officially publish warnings, alerts and information through press statements and official social media pages only if the embassy is sure of the accuracy and authenticity.”

The embassy explained it has no responsibility over information that has been published or circulated individually.
