Shoukri heads to Addis Ababa to attend AU Extraordinary Session

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri headed Tuesday to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to participate in the 11th Extraordinary Session of the African Union (AU), set to be held from November 14 to 18.

Along with 45 African leaders, Shoukri will attend the Executive Council Meeting of the Extraordinary Session which is set to be held on November 14 and 15, and the General Assembly set to be held on November 17 and 18, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The extraordinary session is set to address updates of the AU Institutional Reform process, including the AU Commission’s reform that started in 2016 in Kigali Summit, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said.

Financing of the African Union and the mandate of the AU Development Agency are also set to be discussed during the session. Moreover, Shoukri will also hold talks with many African foreign ministers on the sidelines of the session, Hafez said.
