On September 20, the global search engine Google celebrated the 86th birth anniversary of the late Egyptian writer Notaila Rashed, one of the founders of the famous children’s magazine, Samir.

Google celebrated the Egyptian writer, who became known as “Mama Lubna”, through an expressive cartoon image of her linked to some articles highlighting her role and history.

Notaila Rashed was born on September 19, 1934 and was famous for her keenness on communicating with children. She started writing for children and youth since she was a student at Cairo University. In 1953, her first collection of short stories was broadcast on the radio.

Also, Rashed co-founded Samir in 1956. She held the position of the magazine’s editor-in-chief from 1966 to 2002. She made sure to teach children the rules of journalism and writing in general, so she created the section “Correspondent Samir”, the budding journalist, to nurture generations of children.

Rashed won the State Prize for Children’s Literature in 1978 and the Science and Arts Medal of the first class. Some of the works of “Mama Lubna” were translated into English, and some works were translated from English by her.

In addition, Rashed held the position of Secretary of the Child Culture Committee at the Supreme Council of Culture. She was a member of the Supreme Committee of the Cairo International Festival for Child Cinema and a member of the Higher Committee for Children and Adolescents at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

She passed away on May 26, 2012.
