Fourth round of Egyptian-Russian consultations kicks off on Monday

The Egyptian-Russian consultations will be held in the Russian capital Moscow on Monday in the framework of the “2 + 2” formula between the defense and foreign ministers of the two countries, which is being held regularly for the fourth time.

Egypt Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, are scheduled to discuss ways to boost bilateral relations in political, economic, cultural and tourism fields, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zaid said in a statement.

Zaid said that the talks are based on the boom in relations between the two countries following the recent visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to Egypt in December 2017, which witnessed the signing of the contracts for the construction of the Dabaa nuclear power plant and the subsequent resumption of direct flights between the two countries in April.

He added that the two ministers will discuss the regional issues of common concern, including the crises in Syria, Libya, Yemen, the Iranian nuclear agreement and the Egyptian and Russian stances on them, as well as ways to develop cooperation and coordination frameworks between the two countries in the field of combating terrorism.

The strategic dialogue between Egypt and Russia in the formula 2 + 2 has been activated in 2013.
