CAIRO – 16 October 2021: Egypt’s Mufti Shawqi Allam has condemned the blasts that tore through a Shiite mosque during Friday prayers in the Afghan city of Kandahar.
Suicide bombers attacked a Shiite mosque packed with worshippers attending Friday prayers in southern Afghanistan, killing at least 47 people and wounding 70, a Taliban official said. It was the deadliest day since the U.S. military withdrawal.
In a statement, the mufti called on the Afghan society to stand against extremism and terrorism and to close ranks in order to fight such groups that seek to destabilize the country.
Allam offered condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and wished the wounded a speedy recovery.
