Egypt’s Ambassador to China Osama el Magdoub said that the Egyptian and Chinese sides are keen on promoting strategic partnership and coordination on issues of mutual interest in light of Egypt’s presidency of the African Union (AU) as of February 2019.

In statements to MENA on Tuesday, the diplomat said that there is mutual understanding between President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the importance of boosting bilateral cooperation.

China is also keen on strengthening ties with African countries within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), he added.

Cooperation between China and Africa is based on industrial development, enterprise interdependence, trade facilitation, the promotion of green economic development, the protection of the ecological environment, the promotion of capacity-building, the support of the health sector, the promotion of popular communication and consolidating cooperation in the peace and security domain, he stressed.

During president Sisi’s visit to China in September, he and Xi agreed on pushing forward comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries, Magdoub said.

They also signed a number of agreements on implementing projects in Egypt, with total investments amounting to 18.3 billion dollars, Magdoub added.
