Flydubai announced on Wednesday that it studies resuming flights to Damascus, and that it will follow the instructions and guidelines of the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) once it gives the green light to national carriers.

The GCAA’s General Manager Seif al-Sweidy told Al-Emarat Al-Youm that his institution will soon send a committee to Damascus International Airport to assess the possibility of resuming flights and lifting the ban.

Sweidy elaborated that the committee’s report will be examined by another GCAA committee, whose recommendations will be the basis of the institution’s decision.

The United Arab Emirates re-opened in December its embassy in Syria as it was shut off in 2011 along the outbreak of the Civil War.
