The government is expected to submit to the House of Representatives a draft law that regulates e-commerce in Egypt.

Below are some figures on e-commerce in Egypt

1) The size of e-commerce in Egypt is $2 billion.
2) 90 percent of e-commerce in Egypt belongs to the informal sector.
3) E-commerce customers increased by 30 percent in 2017.

There have been calls to establish one entity to be in charge of regulating and monitoring e-commerce as that responsibility is divided upon the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Finance, the Investment Entity, and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

E-commerce is expected to be governed by three bills. One is the cyber crime bill which was passed by the House of Representatives in May 2018. The other two are personal data protection, and regulation of commercial transactions. The former is being reviewed by the Communications and Information Committee at the Parliament.
