Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson have agreed on enhancing the mutual relations between Cairo and London on all levels during the coming period.

During a phone call on Tuesday night, Johnson said that Britain is counting on Egypt’s pivotal role in preserving stability in the Middle East and Africa, according to spokesperson Bassam Rady.

Johnson commended the tangible economic and social development achievements in Egypt, including the construction of several mega national projects and providing a business-friendly environment.

For his part, Sisi welcomed the UK government’s decision to lift restrictions on flights to Sharm El-Sheikh, ending a nearly four-year suspension of flights to the Egyptian Red Sea resort city.

He expressed hope that the move would further advance cooperation to the desired levels, especially in the economic, investment, security and tourism domains, Rady added.

In addition, the two sides discussed the latest developments on several regional issues of mutual concern, topped by the situation in Libya and Syria, Egypt’s counter-terrorism efforts and means of preserving African peace and security in light of Egypt’s current presidency of the African Union.

Sisi and Johnson met in August on the sidelines of the G7 Summit held in France’s Biarritz.

According to a statement issued by Rady, the two leaders agreed on the importance of exerting the utmost efforts to reach comprehensive political settlements to resolve the crises in the Middle East and achieve the development aspired by the peoples of the region.

“Sisi stressed the necessity of stepping up efforts exerted by the international community to face terrorism via cutting off terrorists from their sources of revenue and stopping providing political cover for them,” the statement reported.
For his side, Johnson affirmed his appreciation for Egypt’s role in supporting efforts to achieve peace, stability and security in the Middle East.
