Egypt’s Ministry of Interior granted inmates one exceptional visit during the period from March till the end of the month, on the annual anniversary of Mother’s Day.
It was stated that the exceptional visit comes as part of the ministry’s keenness to uphold the values of human rights alongside the application of its penal policy and modern correctional system.
In December 2018, the Cabinet approved a presidential decree pardoning some prisoners on the occasion of the Police Day and January Revolution.
According to the constitution, the president has the right to issue pardons for convicted prisoners after consulting with the Cabinet.
