Top Egyptian diplomat has condemned Turkey’s role in supplying militias in Libya with weapons and sending terrorists to Syria, saying it endangers the security and stability of the region and undermines Berlin talks.
As Assistant Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs for European Affairs Badr Abdel Aaty held talks on Wednesday with Eva Martinez, the Spanish government’s envoy to the Middle East via video conferencing, Ambassador Mohamed Abu Bakr, assistant Egyptian foreign minister for Libyan affairs underscored Egypt’s fixed stance toward the Libyan crisis, describing the Turkish role in the war-torn country as negative.
During the meeting, Abdel Aaty affirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with the government and people of Spain in the face of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The two sides reviewed the efforts to fight the novel virus and agreed on the need to consolidate international efforts to curb its spread and limit its economic implications.
The Egyptian and Spanish sides also discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations on the political and economic levels, especially in the fields of trade, investments, agriculture, maritime transport.
Abdel Aaty expressed Egypt’s willingness to benefit from the Spanish experience in rationalizing water uses, irrigation, greenhouses, information technology, digitization, artificial intelligence and tourism after the end of the coronavirus crisis.
For her part, Martinez affirmed Spain’s keenness to develop and deepen cooperation with Egypt on the political, economic and cultural levels.
The talks also included a number of regional issues of mutual concern, including the Palestinian cause and the developments in the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
