Egypt’s Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Manar on Wednesday has revealed many precautionary measures that shall be followed in conjunction with the operation of regular international flights starting July 1st.
This follows a series of remarks Manar has given to explain the steps Egypt will follow to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in light of the state’s decision to reopen airports and resume international flights to tourist attractions in the governorates of South Sinai, Red Sea and Matrouh.
Manar urged facilitating procedures for passengers and working to avoid overcrowding and make the passengers’ travel experience safer and more comfortable.
A work plan has been developed, including inspecting Egyptian airports continuously to ensure implementation of all procedures and controls taken by the Ministry, Manar said, such as providing the airports with a system of thermal cameras to detect the temperature of passengers and continuing comprehensive sterilization and disinfection work, as well as applying social distancing among travelers and obliging everyone to wear masks.
Procedures will also include sterilizing all planes before and after each flight and making sure all passengers wear facemasks inside the plane. Also, places in the plane were allocated for people with chronic diseases who cannot put on masks for long time, while the last two rows in each plane will be allocated to isolate passengers who may show some symptoms of infectious diseases.
Earlier in June, State Minister of Media and Information Osama Heikal said the government will reduce curfew hours nationwide to start on 8 P.M. and end on 4 A.M. instead of 5 A.M., starting Sunday, June 14th.
Egypt has so far reported 47,856 coronavirus cases, 1,766 deaths due to the novel virus and 12,730 recoveries, according to official figures on Tuesday.
Domestic tourism and flights to coastal cities will be back starting July 1, Heikal said, while public gardens and beaches will continue to be closed in all governorates until June 30.
The Egyptian state has set a plan to restore all activities in the country step by step, the state minister said.
The state is also considering reopening worship places in the governorates impacted least by coronavirus (COVID-19) starting July, he added.
Commercial centers and shops nationwide will be allowed to open daily until 6 P.M. instead of 5 P.M.
