Egypt starts applying telemedicine services in health insurance system

For the first time, the Egyptian General Healthcare Authority for the comprehensive health insurance system started applied the telemedicine service for one million citizens in Port Said governorate, the Health Ministry announced in a statement on Saturday.

The authority launched a new online application called “Al-Balto,” which means “Coat” to provide medical care in eight specializations of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, psychology, nutrition, dermatology and venereology disease, in Arabic and English.

The patient can log in to the application via his mobile number and then choose the specialization and specify the time of the medical consultation, the statement added.

During the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), physical distancing comes as an extremely vital measure for people all over the world to flatten the curve of infection. Several initiatives of telemedicine have been created by groups of Egyptian physicians.
