Citizen to pay LE300 for surgeries under comprehensive health insurance system

The Egyptian citizen’s payment under the umbrella of the comprehensive health insurance project does not exceed LE 300 pounds for the largest surgery such as organ transplantation, according to Minister of Finance and head of comprehensive health insurance, Mohamed Maait.

This came in a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the application of comprehensive health insurance in Port Said Governorate.

Maait stressed that the failure to receive requests for treatment abroad reflects the medical progress in Egypt, where most of the serious surgeries are performed on the homeland.

He said that the coming period will witness new coverage in the package of medical services provided to beneficiaries of the comprehensive health insurance system in accordance with the latest methods of treatment and internationally approved medicines.

The minister explained that comprehensive health insurance covers so far more than 2,300 medical services, including surgical intervention, investigations, radiology, oncology, organ transplantation, prosthetic devices, visual and audio aids, dental treatment, therapeutic and supplementary foods, and others, covering various diseases.

He added that osteoporosis diseases, some psychological diseases, speech rehabilitation, old age, and growth “congenital defects” were included in the approved list of chronic diseases exempt from the percentage of contributions assessed when receiving radiological services, medical imaging, analyzes, and dispensing medicines.

He also confirmed that the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance will expand in the next phase in contracting with service providers from the private and public sectors, as well as the Health Care Authority. To ensure the provision of good medical services to the beneficiaries.
