President of Al Azhar University Mohamed el Mahrasawi has decided to suspend classes at all colleges and replace them with online learning, as of Saturday and until the end of the first semester.

In a statement released on Thursday, Mahrasawi said the decision comes in light of the State’s keenness to preserve the safety and health of students, teaching staff and administrators, amid the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

He added that the mid-year vacation would last from February 6 until 18, noting that the number of staffers at the colleges would be reduced.
