Egypt reports 409 new coronavirus cases, 31 fatalities on Saturday

The Health Ministry said Saturday night that 409 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 280,005.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 29 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 16,062.

As many as 438 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 209,395 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt received on June 24, a consignment of 210,000 doses of Sputnik V anti-COVID-19 vaccine within a deal to acquire 10 million doses.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population Khaled Megahed stated on June 15 that Egypt would receive soon 1.9 million AstraZeneca doses through Covax, and one million Sinopharm doses.

It is noted that Egypt is getting 40 million doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccine through Covax. Until present, the country got 2.2 million doses of those in addition to two million Sinopharm doses within a deal with China comprising 20 million doses.

Furthermore, Egypt will produce 40 million doses annually of Sinovac and Sputnik V vaccines. Production of the former will begin in a few days as 1,400 liters of raw material have been delivered by China to produce 2,250,000 doses as a first phase. The second consists of five million doses.
