Egypt reports 175 new coronavirus cases, 20 fatalities on Monday

The Health Ministry said Monday night that 175 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 282,257.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 20 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 16,384.

As many as 765 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 214,852 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt aims at vaccinating 40 percent of the Egyptian citizens by the end of 2021, Ambassador Nader Saad, Cabinet spokesman said Sunday.

He added in statements that Egypt will start using the locally manufactured vaccines by the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) starting August.

He noted that one million doses of “Vacsera -Sinovac” vaccine have been already manufactured; however, the usage of these vaccines will start after running more tests during the coming weeks.

In a press conference, Monday Egypt’s Prime Minster Mostafa Madbouly said, that Egypt has produced one million dose of Coronavirus vaccine manufactured by the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA).

He added that Egypt’s daily production for COVID-19 vaccines currently is 300,000 doses, and that the government is discussing with China doubling the raw materials we import to raise the country’s daily production to 600,000 doses.
