About 279 new COVID cases, 9 deaths recorded in Egypt Tuesday

The Health Ministry said Tuesday night that 279 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 288,441.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said nine patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 16,736.

As many as 763 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 239,343 so far, the spokesman said.

The head of the Scientific Committee to Combat Corona Virus Hossam Hosny said that the idea of giving citizens a third dose of the Corona vaccine is still being studied; however, he added that citizes who received the two doses can get the third dose 6 months afterwards.

“We monitored some cases of Delta in Egypt,” he said, ensuring that all vaccines available in Egypt are effective and safe.

Egypt has announced it has entered the fourth wave of Coronavirus as infection rates climbed up.

Egypt’s Ministry of Health also announced that five different vaccines are now available in nearly 539 vaccine centers across the country against coronavirus.

The Ministry explained that all of the five vaccines have emergency approvals from the Egyptian Medicines Authority.

The Health Ministry Spokesperson Khaled Megahed noted that the available vaccines are: Sputnik V, Sinopharm, AstraZeneca, Johnson& Johnson and Sinovac.

He called on all citizens to register online [http://www.egcovac.mohp.gov.eg] and get vaccinated against COVID-19.
