The Health Ministry said that 588 new coronavirus cases were detected in Egypt over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 295,639.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 14 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 16,935.

As many as 657 patients were discharged from hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recoveries to 249,082, he added.

UK’s Transport Secretary announced, Friday that Egypt among other eight countries would be taken off the red list starting October 4th.

Lifting Egypt of the red list means that travelers will no longer have to stay in hotel quarantine, and PCR tests will no longer be required for fully vaccinated travelers returning to England.

UK’s Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said that the purpose of the travel update is to make it easier to travel without the bureaucracy, without so many tests, and with a greater level of certainty now that we’ve got so many people vaccinated.

“we’re making testing easier for travel, From Mon 4 Oct, if you’re fully vax you won’t need a pre-departure test before arrival into England from a non-red country and from later in Oct, will be able to replace the day 2 PCR test with a cheaper lateral flow.” Shapps wrote on twitter.

Along with Egypt, the UK announced removing Pakistan, the Maldives, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Oman, Bangladesh and Kenya from its Red List.
