CAIRO – 12 February 2022: Egyptian Ambassador to Russia Nazih Al-Najari announced on Saturday Russia lifted the entry ban that had been imposed on cargos of Egyptian oranges.
The ambassador said that the diplomatic efforts have figured out the problem of Egyptian orange exports’ access to the Russian market.
He added that the embassy is following up on the process of releasing the shipments at the ports to enter the Russian markets.
Also, in a statement on Saturday, the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture announced that the problem of this shipment has been solved, adding that the Russian authorities lifted the ban that was imposed on some Egyptian companies.
The Russian authorities have imposed an entry ban on the Egyptian Agricultural commodities after the Russian Federal Authority changed the standard specifications for importing agricultural crops without notifying Egypt.
In a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Cairo Georgy Borisenko on Thursday, Egyptian Minister of Agricultural Sayyed El Qusseir assured that the Egyptian cargos of oranges that were banned by Russia are safe in accordance with the international standard specifications.
The Minister highlighted the necessity of notifying Egypt of all-new Russian legislative rules regarding the entry of Egyptian agriculture exports.
Egypt is the largest exporter of citrus in the world, Agriculture Ministry’s Spokesman Mohamed el Qersh said in April 2021.
