CAIRO – 29 March 2022: Spouses and second-degree relatives can now drive handicap cars per an amendment to the law on people with disabilities, where only first-degree relatives and personal drivers had been allowed to drive such vehicles.

The House of Representatives approved the amendment on Sunday. First degree relatives are parents, children, and grandfathers, while second degree relatives include the grandmothers, grandsons, brothers, and sisters.

The law allows spouses and relatives to drive the vehicle in case the handicapped person is underage, is not fit to drive, or cannot afford a personal driver.

Handicap cars are exempt from all taxes and may not be sold for five years after the exemption.
