Death toll of Egyptian pilgrims in Mecca rises to 86

The death toll of Egyptian pilgrims performing Hajj in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, has risen to 86, the Ministry of Health and Population said Tuesday.

The most recently deceased person is Saed al-Sayed Abd al-Fattah Allam, a 44-year-old, who lives in Sharkeya governorate, Dr Mohammed Shawky said, the deputy chief of the Hajj Medical Mission.

Saed suffered a heart attack and breathing failure resulting in his death in Mecca Hospital, Shawky added.

Shawky pointed out that Hajj Medical Mission coordinates with Saudi authorities to extract a death certificate.

Some 70,000 Egyptians joined the annual Hajj season in Mecca, which attracted more than 2.3 million pilgrims from all over the world.

Pilgrims will return to Egypt between September 6 and 22 from Jeddah, and from between September 6 and 26 from al-Madina al-Monawara, EgyptAir announced.
