The Ministry of Health revealed that the prevalence rate of Hepatitis C in 2021 reached 2 percent, marking a drop compared to 7 percent in 2018.
Spokesperson for Ministry of Health Khaled Mogahed said that 70 million citizens above the age of 18 years old were examined as part of an initiative, launched by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, aiming to eradicate the Hepatitis C and early detect noncommunicable diseases.
He further added that free treatment was provided to 2 million citizens within 7 months as part of the initiative.
Mogahed stressed the achievement Egypt has made in curing Hepatitis C, saying that Egypt is close to obtain an international certification for being free of the virus, after it has suffered for years, and was among the countries with the highest spread of the virus.
