Magnitude 4.6 earthquake strikes southwest of Egypt’s Western Desert

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck southwest of the Western Desert, some 300 kilometers northwest of Aswan’s Abu Simbel town.

The quake, which took place earlier on Friday, had a depth of 12 kilometers, head of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics Gad el Qady said.

The institute has reported no casualties or material damage so far, he added.
