Egypt reports 921 new coronavirus infections, 58 deaths

CAIRO – 3 November 2021: The Health Ministry said Tuesday night that 921 new coronavirus cases were detected in the past 24 hours, upping the total number of confirmed cases reported in the country since the outbreak the virus to 332,889.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Dr Khaled Megahed said 58 patients died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 18,769.

As many as 664 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 279,823 so far, the spokesman added.

Egypt’s Cabinet spokesperson, Ambassador Nader Saad, said Tuesday that Egypt has up to 34 million doses of coronavirus vaccine.

He noted in statements that the number of vaccinated citizens who received the first dose is 25 million, while only 12 million have received the second dose so far.

Saad explained that Egypt’s government has he pledged to vaccinate 40 per cent of the population against COVID-19 before the end of this year.

The spokesman indicated that the current problem is not in the availability of vaccines, but in the enthusiasm of citizens to receive vaccines.

“Citizens are not afraid anymore of receiving vaccines; however, they are just lazy and tend to receive it when they find it reachable around them whether in work, youth centers or malls” Saad said.
