Egypt’s Minister of Environment, CEO of Baker Hughes discuss cooperation in eco-friendly technology in oil field

CAIRO – 19 February 2022: Egyptian Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad met with Lorenzo Simonelli, the Chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes (NASDAQ:BKR), and his accompanying delegation on Saturday, said the Egyptian Ministry of Environment in a statement.

The Minister and Simonelli discussed ways of bilateral cooperation at the national level in the field of environmentally compatible fuel and energy technology, and the exchange of experiences in facing global environmental issues, the statement said.

Fouad said that the Egyptian environment and petroleum sectors have taken necessary measures to help reduce pollution arising from the petroleum sector, and encourage the private sector working in this field to adopt an approach that achieves a balance between preserving natural resources and the expansion in the field of fuel and energy.

Fouad clarified that the volume of emissions from the petroleum sector contributes 3% of Egypt’s total volume of emissions, saying “we are, however, interested in examining ways to reduce the emissions of this sector by adopting the appropriate technology.”

For his part, Mr. Lorenzo Simonelli affirmed his company’s keenness to develop and find ways and technology that are most compatible with the environment. He presented examples and models of the latest findings to support local and international companies in the energy field n the short and long term.

“Natural gas is the most appropriate source of energy for developing countries, so we are working on zero-emission gas liquefaction technology and green gas compressors,” he said.

He expressed his company’s readiness to cooperate with Egypt in eco-friendly technology of energy and in hydrogen as a new source of energy, whether green or blue hydrogen.
