European Commission vice president to visit Egypt Sunday

CAIRO – 9 April 2022: Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans will embark on a two-day visit to Egypt as of Sunday, the embassy of the European Union in Egypt said Saturday.

He will hold official talks with a number of officials on climate change ahead of the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), which will be held in Egypt’s REd Sea reort city of Sharm el–Sheikh this November, the embassy said in a press release.

He will meet with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly as well as Ministers Sameh Shoukry of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Shaker of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Yasmine Fouad of Environment, Tarek El-Molla of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Hala El Saeed of Planning and Economic Development.

Timmermans will also hold talks on a Mediterranean Green Hydrogen Partnership and means of strengthening engagement on topics of mutual interest, such as transition to clean energy and energy efficiency, green growth models and diversification, sustainable finance, carbon markets, adaptation, the press release added.
