Bank’s deposits hike in September to LE 3.64T

Total deposits at the banking system, excluding the Central Bank, increased by LE 38 billion, to reach LE 3.64 trillion by the end of September, compared to LE 3.61 trillion by the end of August, according to the Central bank of Egypt.

CBE said that total government deposits amounted to LE 521.9 billion, of which LE 425.5 billion were in the local currency and LE 96.3 billion were in foreign currencies.

It pointed out that the total non-governmental deposits rose during September to LE 3.22 trillion compared to LE 3.083 trillion in the previous month.

The total foreign currency deposits hit LE 735 billion, of which the public business sector contributed LE 40.8 billion, the private sector allocated LE 194.4 billion and the domestic sector recorded LE 492.9 billion. The rest of the sectors included nonresidents, checks and remittances and allocated LE 84 billion, the statement read.

CBE pointed out that the total non-government deposits in local currency rose to LE 2.38 trillion, as LE 421.9 billion went for the public sector and private business sector, while the family sector allocated LE 1.954 trillion.

CBE announced earlier that banks’ deposits marked an increase of LE 527 billion in fiscal year 2017/2018, recording about LE 3.569 trillion by the end of June 2018, compared to LE 3.042 trillion in June 2017.
