An Egyptian military court handed down 12 defendants, including two minors, different sentences of imprisonment ranging between one and seven years on Monday, in a case dubbed in media as “the Cabinet Incidents.”

In December 2011, security forces dispersed a three-week sit-in at the Cabinet building, which caused clashes in the area surrounding the Cabinet and Shura Council and led to the burning of the Scientific Institute.

In the retrial of 12 convicts, the court also fined them LE17,622,022 (US $ 1,1 million), meanwhile, four other defendants were acquitted.

The defendants face charges with involvement in setting fire in public facilities, gathering, protests and possession of weapons.
