LAS participates in extraordinary session of OIC’s FMs Sunday

The League of Arab States (LAS) will participate in the 17th extraordinary session of the Council of the Foreign Ministers of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which will be held in Islamabad on Sunday, according to a statement issued by the pan-Arab organization.

Sunday’s meeting will convene at an initiative by Saudi Arabia, the current chair of the OIC, added the statement.

LAS Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit assigned assistant secretary-general Ahmed Rachid Khattabi with participating in this session that will tackle mechanisms for supporting Afghan people over the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the country, said the statement.

Nearly 18.6 million people in Afghanistan are in dire need of urgent assistance to secure their basic needs, particularly foodstuffs, according to statistics by UN agencies.

Nearly 3.2 million children in Afghanistan are deprived of medical care and suffer from severe malnutrition, it noted.

The league’s participation in this humanitarian gathering reflects cooperation relations with the OIC, the statement concluded.
