Egypt’s Health min., UN Women rep. probe promotion of cooperation

CAIRO – 6 October 2021: Health Minister Hala Zayed has discussed with UN Women Country Representative Christine Arab means to cement cooperation on health and development programs for women under the national project for Egyptian family development.

The minister reviewed the strategic plan to improve living standards for families nationwide and create job opportunities for women and empower them, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said Tuesday.

Zayed also highlighted initiatives launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to improve health of women and children nationwide.

The UN representative has praised great efforts exerted by the minister to counter the outbreak of coronavirus, provide better healthy living standards for families and empower women.

UN Women is the UN organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. A global champion for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide.

The Health Ministry said Tuesday night that 778 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed infections since the outbreak in the country began to 308,347.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 39 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 17,508.

As many as 893 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 260,540 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt has announced it has entered the fourth wave of Coronavirus as infection rates climbed up. The Ministry of Health also announced that five different vaccines are now available in nearly 539 vaccine centers across the country against coronavirus.

The Ministry explained that all of the five vaccines have emergency approvals from the Egyptian Medicines Authority. The vaccines are: Sputnik V, Sinopharm, AstraZeneca, Johnson& Johnson and Sinovac.

The Ministry of Health and Population continues to raise its preparations in all governorates of the Republic, follow up on the situation first-hand regarding the virus, and take all necessary preventive measures.

Adviser to Egyptian President for health and preventive affairs Mohamed Taj el-Din stated that the fourth wave of Coronavirus has started in Egypt, expecting no soon end to the pandemic in the coming years.

Awad Taj El-Din added, in an interview in a TV interview on Wednesday, “we have exceeded 200 infection cases recorded per day, and this means that there is a significant increase in infections, especially the serious ones that need hospitalization.”

“The increase in infections indicates that Egypt has already entered the fourth wave of the Corona virus,” he continued, pointing out that there is an increase in the number of cases of Corona infection at the level of hospital admissions and the need for critical care.
